C driving licence theory – pass in just 1 day

With a Category C licence, you are authorised to drive a truck. If you hold a Category C truck licence, you may drive a motor vehicle with an authorised maximum mass (see Part 1A of the vehicle registration certificate or Part I of the registration document) of more than 3,500 kg. Please note: a Category C truck licence does not allow you to transport goods for commercial purposes. For that, you need a Category C truck licence with Code 95.

Code 95 is something you will often come across as a truck driver. It is the code on your Category C driving licence that indicates whether you are professionally qualified as a driver. If this code expires, you are no longer allowed to drive professionally. It is important to complete 35 hours of continuing training every five years to keep the code valid. Code 95 is a European directive, so it is valid and required in every European country.

In the Netherlands, the CBR, on behalf of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, is responsible for overseeing this code. However, how the regulations are implemented differs between European countries. Each country has its own method of implementation. In the Netherlands, this is done through an ADR course.

For a Category C truck licence, you must pass three exams:

• Truck driving licence exam – theory part 1, Traffic and Technology (RVM1-C).
• Truck driving licence exam – theory part 2, administration (R2C).
• Truck C practical exam (C).

You can only take the practical truck C exam after passing the RVM1-C and R2C theory exams. If you pass both the theory and practical exams within two years, a Certificate of Driving Proficiency will be sent to the RDW. This certificate is valid for three years.

The theory exam for a C driving licence has three different parts: RVM1-C, VM2-C and VM3-C. Each theory exam covers different topics and has different questions, and you have plenty of time to answer them. We’ve listed the three exams for you:

RVM1-C

The RVM1-C exam covers knowledge of rules of conduct, traffic laws and how traffic technology works. This exam has 50 questions, and you have a maximum of 75 minutes to complete it. The questions are multiple choice, and you must choose the one correct answer. You must answer at least 40 of the 50 questions correctly to pass.

VM2-C

The VM2-C exam covers several areas:

• Safety aspects;
• Environmental aspects;
• Relevant provisions of the Working Hours Act and the Working Hours Decree for Transport;
• Relevant provisions of transport legislation.

This theory exam also consists of 50 questions and takes a maximum of 75 minutes. You will be asked various questions about the topics listed above. This is also a multiple-choice exam, in which you must choose the one correct answer from a number of options.

VM3-C

The final part is VM3-C and covers the same topics as the VM2-C exam. However, this exam has 45 practical questions, and you have 120 minutes to complete it. It mainly tests whether you can apply your knowledge in practice. You can also earn this certificate in just one day at NuVrachtwagen. You need to pass this exam to obtain your category C driving licence with Code 95.

It is possible to complete your refresher training requirement through E-learning. This is a home study course, combined with classroom-based theory lessons. So you can simply sit at your own computer and take part in the refresher training. You don't have to book this as a package; as a driver, you can also take individual courses with us.

If you have not completed the required continuing training, your Code 95 cannot be renewed. Always start your refresher training in good time; you can begin as early as five years before your Code 95 expires. You must have completed 35 hours of continuing training before the code can be renewed. If the code cannot be renewed, you are no longer allowed to drive professionally.
