Has your Code 95 expired, or are you worried that it might expire soon? If so, it’s important to act quickly. Without a valid Code 95, you are not allowed to drive a truck or bus for work. In this article, we explain exactly what Code 95 is, what happens if your Code 95 expires, and what you can do right away to get back to work.
What exactly is Code 95?
Code 95 is a mandatory endorsement on the driving licence of professional drivers. It shows that you are professionally qualified and have completed the required periodic training.
Every five years, you must complete a total of 35 hours of periodic training to keep your Code 95 valid. You must complete these training hours before the expiry date on your driving licence.
How can I check whether my Code 95 has expired?
You can easily check whether your Code 95 is still valid by looking at your driving licence. On the back of your driving licence, next to categories C and/or D, you’ll see ‘Code 95’ followed by an expiry date. This is the last date on which your Code 95 is valid. If this date has passed, your Code 95 has expired and you are no longer allowed to drive professionally.
What if your Code 95 has expired?
If your Code 95 has expired, you’re no longer allowed to drive professionally. Your driving licence remains valid for private use, but not for work.
This can have unpleasant consequences:
- You may temporarily be unable to drive for your employer or as a self-employed driver.
- You’ll lose income for as long as your Code 95 hasn’t been renewed.
- You may need to complete further training again before you can return to work.
It’s therefore important to check in good time whether your Code 95 is still valid.
My Code 95 has expired. What now?
Has your Code 95 actually expired? Don’t worry, you can resolve this by completing the required continuing education hours again. Here are the steps you need to take:
1 . Enroll in refresher training
First, you enroll in 35 hours of refresher training with an approved provider. This training is mandatory to renew your Code 95.
2. Make sure your hours are registered with the CBR
After you have completed the continuing education, the training provider will ensure that the hours you completed are registered with the CBR. You can proceed with the application only once all the hours have been registered correctly.
3. Apply for an extension at the municipality
Once your continuing education hours have been registered with the CBR, you can apply to the municipality for a new driving licence showing Code 95 again.
Bear in mind that scheduling continuing education can take some time. So get started as soon as you discover that your Code 95 has expired.
How can I check my Code 95 continuing education hours?
Would you like to know how many periodic training hours you’ve already completed and how many you still need to do? Log in to Mijn CBR. After logging in, go to the ‘Periodic training’ tab. Here you can see exactly how many hours you’ve completed, which courses you’ve taken and how many hours you still need to complete to reach the 35-hour requirement. This way, you’ll know for sure whether you’re on track to renew your Code 95 in time.
Tips to prevent problems in the future
