Would you like to work as a professional driver? Then you need a truck driving licence, and of course, there are costs involved. Wondering how much you’ll spend on getting your truck driving licence? We’ll tell you what you’ll pay for both the practical and theory parts. This will give you a good idea of how much the licence will cost.

The costs of the practical part of a truck driving licence

Of course, the practical part is essential if you want to obtain your category C licence. To pass the practical test, you first need to take practical lessons. You pay around €75 per lesson, and most people need about 30 lessons. With 30 lessons, the total comes to €2250. On top of that, there is the cost of the practical test. You pay the driving school around €400 for this.

The practical part will therefore cost you around €2650 in total. Depending on your driving school and the number of lessons required, the amount may be slightly higher or lower.

Truck theory exam costs

You will also have to pay for the theory exams when getting your truck driving licence. The truck theory exam consists of three modules. Below, we have listed the cost of each part of the truck theory exam.

RVM1-C

The first module is RVM1-C. This module covers traffic, technology, cargo and legislation. The CBR normally charges €44,80 (2026) for this exam.

VM2-C

The VM2-C exam covers vehicle knowledge, vehicle technology, maintenance and faults, mechanical systems and loads. This exam consists of 65 questions. The VM2-C normally costs €44,80 (2026) at the CBR as well.

VM3-C

Finally, you also need to take the VM3-C exam. This exam also consists of 65 questions. The fee is the same as for the other two exams. You will therefore also pay €44,80 (2026) to the CBR for this exam.

Total theory costs

You will therefore need to take three exams in total to pass the theory component. Each exam costs €44,80 (2026). The total cost for the three modules is therefore €134,40. If you need extra time or individual support, additional charges will apply.

Truck driving licence costs, including the theory course
