Would you like to grow in your job or take new steps in the transport and logistics sector? Then the SOOB subsidy is a great opportunity. This subsidy covers a large part of your training costs. In this article, we explain exactly what the SOOB subsidy is, which courses are eligible, what conditions you need to meet, and how to apply for the subsidy.

What is the SOOB subsidy?

SOOB stands for Stichting Opleidings- en Ontwikkelingsfonds Beroepsgoederenvervoer en Verhuur van Mobiele Kranen. The fund has been promoting training and sustainable employability in the sector since 1973. Through the SOOB Subsidiepunt, you can apply as an employer or employee for a contribution towards the costs of courses, training and further training.

The goal is simple: more well-trained professionals on the road and in logistics.

Which courses are eligible?

The SOOB subsidy is available for a wide range of courses that are important in transport and logistics. These include:

  • Driving courses for truck drivers. From theory to practical training for driving licences C and CE.
  • NIWO training modules such as costing, road freight transport 1 and business management.
  • Code 95 refresher training.
  • Vocational training such as ADR, forklift and reach truck certificates or VCA.
  • Safety training and sustainable employability, for example working safely alongside the road.

A fixed subsidy amount has been set for each of these courses. The exact amount varies by course.

Would you like to know how much funding is available for your course? See the complete, up-to-date overview at STL – Courses and training.

What are the requirements?

Not everyone is eligible for the subsidy. The key conditions are:

  • Your employer must pay contributions to SOOB under the collective labour agreement.
  • The course must be taken with a SOOB-certified training provider.
  • It must include a recognised exam.
  • You must always apply for the subsidy in advance, before the course starts.
  • Claims must be complete and submitted on time (within four months of completion).

You can read more details in the official subsidy regulations.

How do you apply for the SOOB subsidy?

For employers

Employers arrange the subsidy directly through the SOOB Subsidiepunt.

  1. Log in or create an account.
  2. Choose the right course category.
  3. Apply for the subsidy before the course starts.
  4. Sign the subsidy agreement.
  5. After completion: submit a claim with invoices, payslips and proof of attendance.

For employees

Employees can also benefit from the subsidy. You’ll often arrange this through your employer, but you can also take action yourself:

  • Choose a certified training provider and say that you want to use the SOOB subsidy.
  • Ask your employer to submit the application through the Subsidiepunt.
  • Keep track of the deadlines and requirements yourself so you don’t miss them.

Your next step

The SOOB subsidy makes training in transport and logistics much more affordable. Whether you want to get your truck driving licence, renew your Code 95 qualification or obtain a forklift certificate, this scheme gives you a substantial contribution towards the cost.

Would you like to benefit from the subsidy? Make sure you apply on time, check that your training provider is certified by SOOB and keep an eye on the deadlines.
