Have you got Module 1-C under your belt? Congratulations! The next step towards your professional competence (Code 95) is Module 2-C (VM2-C). In your first exam, you learned the basics; now it’s time to go into more depth. This exam focuses entirely on your knowledge of the vehicle and the safe transport of cargo. At NuVrachtwagen, we explain exactly what the CBR’s five official Module 2-C learning objectives involve.
What’s the difference between Module 1 and Module 2?
You may be wondering why topics such as vehicle technology and cargo come up again. The difference is simple: Module 1 covers the basic rules (the ‘what’ questions). Module 2 focuses on professional application (the ‘how’ questions).
In Module 2, you learn not only that a truck brakes, but also how to read an engine performance chart, how alternative fuels such as hydrogen work, and how to calculate exactly how many lashing straps you need. It turns you into a technical expert.
Final objective 1: Vehicle knowledge and optimal use
Here, you’ll learn which vehicle is right for which job and how to drive it as sustainably as possible.
- Types of vehicles: From motorhomes and recovery vehicles to tractor-trailers and longer and heavier vehicles (LZVs).
- Alternative fuels: The differences between diesel, electric power, hydrogen and LNG/CNG (range, emissions and charging times).
- Eco-driving: How do you use the rev counter, dashboard and ADAS systems to save fuel? Here you’ll learn all about ‘The New Driving’.
Final objective 2: Basic knowledge of vehicle technology
This is the largest technical section. You’ll learn how all the systems under the bonnet and in the chassis work together.
- Engines: How cooling systems, lubrication (including central lubrication) and fuel systems work.
- Exhaust after-treatment: Everything about AdBlue, particulate filters and the regeneration process.
- Chassis and brakes: How air suspension, shock absorbers and complex braking systems such as the retarder and intarder work.
- Refuelling and charging: The safety regulations for refuelling with gas (LNG/CNG) or charging heavy batteries.
Final objective 3: The driver’s role in maintenance and breakdowns
If something goes wrong on the road, you need to know what to do. You’re the first responder.
- Recognising faults: What do you do if there are leaks, electronic faults or a broken half-shaft?
- Dashboard symbols: You need to know all the warning lights (oil pressure, air, engine management) by heart.
- Checks: How do you carry out a full vehicle inspection before, during and after the journey? You’ll also learn the safety rules for tilting the cab.
Final objective 4: Electronic and mechanical systems
Modern trucks are packed with smart assistance systems. The CBR tests whether you know how to use them.
- Emergency assistance systems: How ABS, EBS (emergency braking assistant) and ESP (stability) work.
- Driver assistance: Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist and blind spot warnings (Blind Spot Warning).
- Monitoring systems: Systems that monitor your tyre pressure (TPMS), axle loads and even your fatigue.
Final objective 5: Securing cargo
Securing cargo safely is a major part of this exam. It involves physics and legislation.
- Forces: You learn that you must secure 80% of the cargo's weight towards the front and 50% towards the sides and rear.
- Securing methods: When should you choose to tie down, direct lash or block (form-fit) the load?
- Equipment: How to use lashing straps correctly (read the labels!), anti-slip mats, twist locks and dunnage bags.
- Loading plan: How do you create a plan based on weight, centre of gravity and route?
Why is this exam so challenging?
Module 2-C consists of 65 questions, and the level of detail is considerably greater than in Module 1. The calculations involved in securing cargo and the specific operation of electronic systems are especially common sources of mistakes. Because this knowledge directly determines whether you can work safely and avoid fines, the CBR sets high standards.
