Module 1-C Final Objectives
NuVrachtwagen

Are you just starting your career as a truck driver? Then chances are you’ve already come across the term ‘final attainment targets’. It may sound like a complicated puzzle, but don’t worry! At NuVrachtwagen, we like to keep things simple for you. In this blog, we explain exactly what the CBR’s four official final attainment targets involve, so you can ace your Module 1-C theory exam without any stress.

What is meant by a ‘learning objective’?

Let's start at the beginning: what exactly is an exam objective? Exam objectives are the main topics covered in the exam. According to the CBR, they provide a ‘broad’ description of exactly what you need to know and be able to do to pass. You can think of them as the main chapters of your exam material. The Module 1-C (Traffic & Technology) exam has four official sections.

Learning objective 1: Traffic

This is the largest part of your exam. It is not just about the rules, but above all about how you behave when driving a large vehicle.

Learning outcome 2: Technology

You don't have to become a mechanic, but you do need to understand how your truck works from a technical perspective.

  • Engine and Systems: How the engine, lubrication, cooling and electrical system work.
  • Brakes and Suspension: Everything about air brakes and the importance of the correct tyre pressure.
  • Maintenance and the Environment: How do you spot defects? This also covers ‘The New Driving’ (fuel-efficient driving) and low-emission zones.

Learning outcome 3: Cargo

A truck drives very differently when fully loaded. This part is crucial for safety.

  • Load distribution: How do you distribute the weight across the axles to prevent overloading?
  • Load securing: How do you secure cargo safely? This includes using ratchet straps, friction, and the forces generated when braking.
  • Stability: How does a high centre of gravity affect a vehicle’s handling when cornering?

Learning objective 4: Legislation

As a driver, you’re also a bit of an administrative assistant. You need to keep your paperwork in order.

  • Documents: Which documents must be kept in the cab (vehicle registration certificate, insurance, transport documents)?
  • Social legislation: The basics of driving and rest times and the use of the tachograph.
  • Permits: What do you need for domestic and international transport?

Why are these topics so important?

Together, these four learning objectives form the core of your Module 1-C exam. The exam consists of 65 questions, and you need to answer at least 52 correctly to pass. The CBR divides the questions across these four topics, with an emphasis on Traffic, but you’ll also need the other topics to reach that 80% score.
